Killarney Race Circuit outside Cape Town (well not outside really anymore) recently hosted the Passion For Speed event that draws vintage entries from overseas. Most of the participants are wealthy oldish men (and a few women) who travel around the world racing beautiful vintage racing cars.

Driving a v8 AC Cobra

This is the second time I have done Cape Cobra car hire shoot.

Cape Cobra Hire is a company that rents out AC Cobra’s, a replica kit car of the original Cobra developed in the early 1960’s by Carol Shelby.

Only this time it was to shoot one of their clients driving the car from the back of a convertible BMW.

It was a scorcher of a day and perfect for some great outdoor shots of the fantastic AC Cobra, a car that is pure fun to drive.

John Rodger is an experienced and well liked Cape Town photographer with an outstanding and diverse portfolio.

His passion for photographing people and his ability to get the best out of them make him an exceptional commercial and corporate photographer.

He also has a deep passion for travel and loves to be in the middle of nowhere as often as possible. His photography extends to these fields and beyond.

His beginnings were in shooting weddings and extreme sport that took him all over the country and that he still loves doing, forever after that perfect shot!

This BMW R80 cafe racer (1984) is a stunning example of a custom build.

The monoshock just makes this bike look super cool. I love shooting bikes and spend a lot of time thinking about where to do the shoot and how to best portray the machine.

The painting, upholstery, electronics and other finishings were done by Retro Prestige Motorcycles in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town.

Retro Prestige Motorcycles of Paarden Island in Cape Town recently held a Retro Bike Day.

It was awesome to see so many beautiful motorcycles most of which have been restored or customized. The amount of work that has gone into some of these bikes is staggering. Retro bikes are very much the in-thing these days and some stunning builds were on show.

I shot these pics of a MotoMia cafe racer in Woodstock early one morning when the sun had just come up. It is hard to imagine this is only a 150cc bike. I just love the way the photos came out and the background just worked so well.

I recently did this MotoMia Cafe Racer shoot of a MotoMia bike that had been converted into a cafe racer by the guys at Retro Prestige Motorcycles. I wanted a graffiti wall as a background that we found in Woodstock. The model in the photos is Deon who also is the owner of the bike.
